Human Potential

Each one of us is born with unlimited potential to achieve the ultimate in his/her chosen path. However, we, known as little mortals, do not even attempt to come out of the limited parameters we have woven around ourselves. We keep ourselves occupied with insignificant things – worrying about small things, which never take place anyway. And in the process of avoiding to face such unforeseen worries, we do everything that is unnatural – scheming, planning, becoming obstacles, gossiping, backbiting, backstabbing, rumoring, etc. By indulging in such activities not only we generate but spread negativity.

The choice is between momentary pleasure and eternal bliss! Except living this very moment we have no option. We had no choice for coming into life and so is the case with our death. So it is beyond any confusion or doubt that we have no control on whatever might happen in our lives in the coming moment. If we know this and if we accept this, then why cannot we put purity, discipline, honesty, integrity, self-respect, unconditional love, freedom from fear and/or death, into practice. Why are our lives so miserable with so much knowledge and wisdom prevailing within? Is it because we are always questioning, judgmental rather than wondering and accepting? Is it because we are not living in tune with the nature? Or is it that we have forgotten our lesson that was taught to us at nursery level that happiness is in giving? We are always asking, seeking and expecting more, more and more. Yes, although all these factors are true for our turbulent lives. Ironically, we have no control even to avoid such actions on our part. The reason being this is a "karma-kshetra" and we are all covered with "Maya" - attachment. If this is a true scenario, then what is the solution? All of us have mastered the art of "taking" (accumulating) whether we are in need or not. Two things, for the purpose we are here, we never undertake. One is the name of almighty god and second is service to others. How do you expect to be happy, leave aside in blissful state, when these two sacred actions are missing from our daily routines? Everything else is a by-product - being millionaire or beggar, enjoying fame or disgrace, life or death, as they are "supposed to be pre-destined based on our past-life-karmas". The point of conviction here is that one need not be a scholar to attain wisdom and knowledge. It is built within each one of us. All one needs to do is see, experience and learn from past & around. So, to get rid of that Maya (attachment) there is one very simple solution. Satsang. See to it that a satsang is running within, 24 hours a day, that you are taking his name always, consciously and/or sub-consciously, that all your actions are for him and surrendered to him, that you make him the doer. There is a very simple philosophy. If you are not the doer, all your sufferings are diminished. For all enjoyments, pleasures, joys and sufferings are a result of our doings (actions or reactions). And they are all momentary. Happiness, joy, pleasures, sufferings will come and go. But if you are not the doer, you are away from these momentaries. You are in eternal bliss for you are not affected by happiness or sufferings. To quote a popular saying, “Pain is mandatory, Suffering is optional”.

Another responsible factor for our miseries is mind. The creative part of the mind is lying unused and manipulating mind is overworked. We have been provided mind to use it for decision taking, analysis, calculation, separating right from wrongs. But what we actually do. We end up using mind for judgments, criticism, comparison, competition, falsehood, show-offs, the list is unending. Thoughts never take permission before entering our heads and we make chain reactions to most of them until suddenly we wake up with a shock to realize we were not with us all this while. By the time we come back to our senses, the damage has been done in a ratio we were involved with our thoughts and for that particular time.
